A one day excursion will begin after boarding a luxury wooden boat, the Mekong Queen, with a visit of the colorful Cai Be floating market, where you can witness all of trading activities of local traders with several kinds of agricultural product from one boat to another. The Cai Be floating market is one of the many well-known and the biggest wholesale markets in the western region of Southern Vietnam, which was formed during the Nguyen Dynasty in the 19th century. The market is always busy, bearing all the characteristics of the Southern local’s life in the Mekong region. All the goods are transported to the market by boats. The floating market lies in the Tien (Upper) river, and is divided into two parts: buying and selling places. Boats are anchored along the two sides of the river for kilometers. From the floating market, goods are shifted for selling at inland markets or small boats take them for delivery along canals in the Plain of Reeds. Approximately 400 to 500 boats filled with fruits, vegetables, and other products are anchored here and make it very busy from 05:00 am in the morning until late in the afternoon. Traders live on the river and some link their lives with boats like their mobile houses for generations. The products are hung on a pole in front of the boats to attract customers and it is also easier for customers to see the products they want to buy from a far and no need to go from one boat to another to save their time. You then continue the cruise to a local factory to visit and learn how pop rice, pop corn, rice paper and coconut candies are made. You also have an opportunity to taste these products served with hot green tea. Returning to the boat to take a 50 minute excursion to Dong Hoa Hiep Island and discover the beautiful and peaceful sceneries together with the typical life of the region a long the Mekong River. Stops and visits can be made during the excursion.

A 10 minute walk through a local village and fruit gardens, you will be able to stop to visit the local family scaled Longan process factory, where you have another opportunity to take photo of and interact with several friendly and hard working local people before coming to an old Mandarin house, built hundred years ago and it is where at least four generations of this family have been living. A so delicious Vietnamese lunch will be served by the owner of the family, Mrs. Kiet and you will listen to traditional music, performed by the locals when you are enjoying lunch. One of the highlights after lunch is to walk around the orchard to get to know how the main contribution to the economy of the family is based on.

Walking or taking a small rowing Sampan back to the boat for a half an hour cruise on the Dong Hoa Hiep canal back to the pier. Stop on the way to visit Mr.Ba Duc family if time permitted or as requested .The excursion will end around 14:30 pm for a drive back to Saigon.

Returning to the Mekong Queen by walking or taking a small rowing sampan for another one hour and a half cruise through Dong Phu canal, Binh Hoa Phuoc, An Binh to Vinh Long, the capital town of Cuu Long (nine Dragon) province. Stops a long the way for photos taken and visits can be made a long the way. You then visit Mr. Muoi Huong or Mr. Tam Ho (No 8 Tiger), where you have a short walk through his nursery garden and enjoy several kinds of tropical fruit in the Mekong Delta and taste snake wine while listening to traditional music (subject to availability), called Tai Tu and performed by the local people. Getting back to the boat to cross the Co Chien River, one of the 2 branches of the Mekong, called the upper one to Vinh Long Pier where you get on board your vehicle for a drive back to Saigon or to another part of the Mekong Delta. The excursion will end at the Vinh Long pier around 15:30 pm.

Getting back to the boat and crossing the Co Chien River, one of the two branches of the Mekong to Vinh Long to visit one of the biggest local brick factories, please get your camera ready to shoot some photos of the very hard working local workers.

You are almost reaching to the final fantastic destination of your day on the Mekong Queen, Sa Dec. Stop to visit the local floating houses where thousands of fishes are raised in the wooden boxes underneath in the natural water of the river and Tan Hoa Temple which was built hundreds of years ago by the locals. Continue cruising on the river for another one hour to Sadec, you will have a big chance to discover the beautiful landscapes and the typical life of the Mekong Delta along the way. On arrival, landing at the central market located right on the bank of the river. After saying goodbye to the crew, take a very short walk to experience yourself at an ancient house which was built in French colonial architecture. This is a house shot in a very famous movie called “ The Lovers “, based on a true love story of Mr. Huynh Thuy Le, a rich Vietnamese-Chinese gentleman and Ms. Marguerite Duras.

End of tour around 15:30 or almost 16:00 pm and board your own vehicle for a drive to your hotel.

Stop to visit Mr. Tam Ho (No. 8 Tiger) family, where you take a short walk through his nursery garden to learn how seedlings of several tropical fruit trees are grown. You then listen to traditional music (subject to availability), called Tai Tu and performed by the local band while enjoying different tropical fruit and snake wine. Return on board the Mekong Queen for a one hour cruise through An Binh, Binh Hoa Phuoc and Dong Phu to Cai Be. These Islands are still un-known to many people and you will have a big opportunity to observe the beautiful and peaceful sceneries together with the typical life of the Mekong region. Stops and visits can be made during the excursion if requested.
